We are just animals, humans, and machines getting on together in specific lifeworlds is a listening experience created by Lisa Hall and Hannah Kemp-Welch for Finsbury Park, London, commissioned by breath mark in partnership with Furtherfield as part of the People’s Park Plinth 2021.

The title We are just animals, humans, and machines getting on together in specific lifeworlds is inspired by Donna J. Haraway’s book When Species Meet (2008).

This digital microsite is a reading room, part of a programme of extended public engagement, allowing audiences to further explore the artwork’s themes. We welcome you to extend your experiences through the texts, sounds and videos here. Reading materials are displayed on the homepage and categorised into three groups: AIR, LAND and WATER. All of the materials are allocated into one group depending on the symbolic connotations and connections with the category.

This illustration was published in The Penny Illustrated Paper alongside a short story about the rampage in Finsbury Park of a 25-year-old elephant named Jim. The copy of the page has been displayed in Finsbury Park to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Finsbury Park as The People’s Park.
