Description:

This five-days project offers students from all programmes, a conceptual as well as practical approach to creating sound and editing/constructing sound worlds in conjunction with moving image, focussing particularly on the potential of sound to convey space, timing, narrative, to film or other art work. Groups create 1 sound only project and 1 sound to image projects and present them at end of workshop.

Timetable:

DAY 1
am – Introduction, conceptual framework, sound, psychology, examples, etc
pm – intro to sound equipment / build groups / briefs

DAY 2
am – talk & examples – recordings – discussions & feedback
pm – group work– intro to editing stations

DAY 3 – group work, recording, editing, constructing sound pieces

DAY 4
am – talk, examples, conceptual recap, feedback. Groups finalize piece 1 and go on to work on piece 2
pm – group tutorials, continuation of the 2 pieces

DAY 5
am – groups work on and finalize piece 2
pm – groups present their pieces to the workshop, results are commented and discussed etc
