In Designerly Ways of Knowing, Nigel Cross states that there are things to know, ways of knowing them, and ways of finding out about them that are specific to the design area. The past few months I have followed Cross’ mantra while learning Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence foundations. This approach resulted in developing a vision for a under explored method of research in machine intelligence which consists of understanding the current path of knowledge in the field and then think how design research can unify the domain knowledge in these areas with real world experiences.
In order to discover the preferable combination of these different “flavours” of knowledge, a novel research approach is being designed. This novel research focuses on looking at algorithms as a centre piece for learning and design machine intelligence suitable for real world experiences, with inspiration of biological symbiotic phenomena.
