The research is part of a new decentralized vision of the territories and takes part in the construction of new socio- technical models of circular economy, which seek to increase the environmental efficiency of processes, optimize the use of accessible resources and the autonomy of stakeholders in regional ecosystems.
Speed is an intrinsic and important variable for designing transitions toward circular economies that is not deeply explored in actual practices. While fast fashion model is still the dominant model present in the market, slow fashion is emerging in recent literature and perceived as an alternative model for reaching sustainable consumption. What about this duality fast/slow when we discuss about circular economy? Could all clothes be lasting forever with adapted behaviors, business model, material and process choices? Or some of them will still remain obsolescent after a while due to some cultural or technical issues? In the project “Circular Speeds” of Mistra Future, Filippa K and the team of the Center for Circular Design are exploring different narratives that look for highlighting the necessity of a balanced wardrobe with fast / slow items adapted to user and territorial context. An exhibition and concrete results are expected for the end of 2018.
In the Ldoc project, Marion will take part of the Circular Speed Mistra Future project and will analyze how these Fast/Slow narratives could integrate the potential of convivial technologies and question the relocation of fashion systems through the empowerment of emergent local stakeholder networks. As a systemic design researcher, she will use an agile process to explore this question that consists in three activities: multi-stakeholder knowledge sourcing, visual mapping and animation of creative workshops.
This project is considered as a first brick to build further collaborative projects and keep on developing the researcher career in the area of circular design for fashion.
