Celebrating Fifty Years: Private View

On the evening of 4th November 2014, a huge crowd thronged into the Gulbenkian Gallery for the opening ofGraphics RCA: Fifty Years. The many hundreds of visitors included graphic design alumni, current students, alongside past and present staff.

As the pictures show, it was a joyous occasion. Year groups were reunited, former students met former tutors (and vice versa), and new friendships were forged; more importantly, it was a chance to celebrate 50 years of graphic invention at the RCA.

Reflecting upon his involvement and the atmosphere of the private view evening, Richard Doust remarks: ‘Having been a graphic design student at the RCA at the time of the 1963 exhibition, and as one of the co-curators’ for this new exhibition, I feel immensely proud to have been involved in its’ organisation. To see so many people really enjoying the private view and, of course, rediscovering contemporaries, colleagues, friends and witnessing that unique bond of RCA-ness, made the task of bringing together such outstanding graphic design really worth while.’
