Seeing into Drawing

Description:
This is a 3 day drawing workshop exploring possible indicators of dyslexia and dyspraxia in the way students draw. The intention being to help students find ways of improving their drawing skills through rating themselves at the beginning and end of the workshop. There will be an emphasis on viewpoint, organization of the elements of the drawing within the page, and the quality of line. There will also be discussions around the nature of how drawing is taught within primary and secondary school and the influence that has had on the way participants rate their own drawing ability.
This workshop is informed by research carried out by Qona Rankin (RCA) Howard Riley, Nicola Brunswick (Middlesex University), Chris McManus (UCL) and Rebecca Chamberlain (University of Leuven).
Timetable:
Day 1 ( Monday 31st October)
- Welcome and introduction
- Pre-workshop questionnaire.
- Instructions to print name, day and drawing number on front lower left of each drawing. Each student’s drawings kept in individual named folder to be collected at the end of each day for recording.
- Drawing from still life set up
- 1-2 Lunch
- Drawing clothed life model
- Focused discussions around the influence drawing at school has had on individual participants.
Day 2 (Tuesday 1st November)
- Focused discussions around the influence drawing at school has had on individual participants continued
Day 3 (Wednesday 2nd November)
In the afternoon of day 3 students would be invited to complete a post workshop questionnaire which would be followed by a crit.
