Circular Harvest x RNLI

Project Outline:

The Royal National LIfeboat Institution (RNLI) is the charity that saves lives at sea. They have a significant footprint across the UK and ROI, and are seeking to influence the global drowning agenda. Over the past few years, they have developed a sustainability strategy and are taking some meaningful steps towards its implementation.

 This 5-day design challenge should encourage students to use the principles of the circular economy to tackle real world issues and develop sustainable practices for the RNLI.

Timetable:

Day 1
Introduction from RNLI Sustainability Officer Anna Frizzell and Project Leaders.
-Material Provided to Students
-Students Organized into Groups
-Exploring Project Constraints
-Idea generation exercises
– Sewing induction

Day 2
– Concept development
– Textile technician to help in the morning

Day 3
Prototype Sprint

Day 4
Refinement of prototypes

Day 5

-Presentations
-Open critiques of finalised work
– Celebration drinks at the bar!!!!

Additional Information:

As this rapid prototyping will be integral for this project, all students are encouraged to complete their workshop inductions before the start of the project.

Monday 29 at 2:30-4:30 there will be induction to sewing machines in the mixed media workshop, which will allow students to access domestic sewing machines.  10 people are allowed to do it at the same time.
