In Silence: A Workshop on 16mm Film
Project Leads: Alasdair Asmussen Doyle
Number of participants: 12
Duration: 5 days
Project Outline:
Despite the growing obsolescence of 16mm film production, there has been renewed interest in the medium in recent years, largely as a result of a new generation of younger artists turning to analogue technologies to make and show their work.
This workshop is designed to explore this surge of contemporary artists using photochemical technology, while engaging in a critical dialogue to its position within contemporary image production, and the dichotomy between digital and analogue. Addressing some of the opportunities and pitfalls to working with 16mm, the workshop will give participants the chance to further their practical knowledge of 16mm filmmaking and offer an introduction to London’s growing, albeit small, celluloid community.
Throughout the course of the workshop, participants will be given 100ft of colour reversal 16mm film to conceive and shoot a film project.
Timetable:
Monday – Friday, 11:00 – 16:00
